My Finished Music Video!

So obviously I finished a while back! But I thought it was about time I uploaded my completed music video for you all to watch! I hope you all enjoy it, I certainly enjoyed filming it and putting it all together! 🙂

New Music Video :)

Okay, so whilst it’s the Christmas holidays (YAY!!) and I can’t access the school computers to edit my Keeping On Without You music video, I woke up today and thought ‘I’m going to make another one!’ Just a quick simple one with only me miming. I decided to use the song ‘New Romantic’ by Laura Marling. I absolutely love Laura Marling, I first saw her perform on ‘Later with Jools Holland’ about a year ago, and thought for her age she is amazingly talented. I set up a lamp propped up pointing at my face to accentuate the contours and shadows. I sat just infront of my bedroom door, because it’s glossy white and panelled and I thought for a simple plain background that’d work best. At the time I was wearing just a white vest top, but I put tucked the straps down and also wore very minimal make-up to give a very bare and naked feel. It actually only took one take, seeing as I filmed it as one continuous shot with no cuts or different angles. Since I’m using my box standard laptop, I only had Windows Movie Maker for the editing software which is so lame I know haha. I hadn’t even used WMM since like Year 7, and I remember it being too easy for even a sloth to use, but 6 years later and they’ve actually got their act together and put a few more features in! Haha, it’s actually not too bad now, definitely not up to the standards of Final Cut Pro (god bless the Macintosh world) but it was alriiiiight! So anyway, I decided after playing around with the software that it looked a lot more effective in black and white! And then I decided, oh let’s add some lyrics in! So I did, and I think it turned out okay actually! Bit cringeworthy I know, but hey ho, you’ve got to act out the lyrics and be a little drama queen for it to look effective! But here it is! 🙂

Lady Gaga – Born This Way PROJECT

So our little side project alongside finding a suitable song for our individual music videos, was to create a music video to the song ‘Born This Way’ – Lady Gaga. It was a whole class project, so everyone had a little part of the song to do each, and we all made a plan on storyboards to figure out what we were going to do, then once we were done, we put all our clips on a master computer where it would all be edited and be put together as a whole piece. And it was a lot of fun!

If you take a look at Lady Gaga’s official music video for Born This Way featured above, you can see just how complex and creative it is. Obviously we couldn’t create anything on that scale, but we did our own little eccentric twist on it ourselves. In her music video, it is obvious where she has gained inspiration from, for example like Bladerunner, Madonna and Michael Jackson. It is a verrry weird but wonderful video, at the beginning we have over a minute long little introduction for the song where we see Lady Gaga as the ‘Mother Monster’ and telling her fans to put their paw’s up (as they are her ‘monsters’). We see what seems to be her giving birth to herself, this portrays confidence in a very obscure way. The whole video is incredibly weird but with many sexual connotations throughout the video. Another thing, that I found really interesting, is when we (as girls) see a celeb walking with hardly any clothes on in a music video, you think ‘ughhh that’s slutty’ or ‘dammit I’m so jealous’, but when we see Lady Gaga walking in just underwear through the crowds of people, her body looks flawless and obviously trying to appear sexy, but this just doesn’t get the same reaction. It’s weird. As a class, all the girls agreed that we weren’t jealous or intimidated or put off by the images of Lady Gaga wearing close to nothing. Whereas if it had been, perhaps… Britney Spears or something, automatically you think the opposite. I think this is because Lady Gaga isn’t actually your typical skinny blonde girl you’d be jealous of, she’s admitted herself she thinks she’s quite ugly. And although she’s very slim, it’s a very athletic build rather than a small waist and big boobs kinda thing. I mean yeah, I’d kill for her body, but her whole music video teaches that you were born this way, and you should just love yourself the way you are, so that’s probably another reason why you just don’t see her in this stereotypical half naked girl in a music video. Like Rihanna or whatever… ugh, haha 🙂

But yeah! So, this is my little bit that I made for the music video! It was inspired by ‘Black Or White’ – Michael Jackson, when all people of different races morphed, and I thought it was pretty cool! So here it is!

This is the original music video to ‘Black Or White’, you can see the morph thing take place at 5.27

And this is a modern take on the morph thing, influenced by Michael Jackson’s music video!

These are also scanned screenshots of the storyboards I produced in order to plan what we were going to film as part of the music video:

Here are a couple extra photographs of us taking part in a shot that showed all of our arms moving in time with the music!

This is the final finished music video!!
